ACT STP Demos

These are the cognitive control task demos from my talk. Each one is a single, self-contained HTML file: you can try it right here with preview, or download it and open it in any web browser, no internet connection or installation needed. Feel free to use and adapt them for your own teaching.

Most demos use the keyboard, so they work best on a laptop or desktop computer.

AX-CPT

A continuous performance task: respond to an X only when it follows an A. Includes standard, fast, and simple X-only versions, useful for showing proactive versus reactive control.

responds with: spacebar

Go/No-Go & Stop Signal

Two classic response inhibition tasks in one file: withhold a response on no-go trials, or cancel a response that is already underway when a stop signal appears.

responds with: spacebar (go/no-go), arrow keys (stop signal)

N-Back

A working memory task: respond whenever the current item matches the one shown N items earlier. Choose the N level at the start.

responds with: spacebar

Task Switching

An alternating-runs paradigm: classify the letter (consonant/vowel) or the number (odd/even), with the task cued by screen location. Demonstrates switch costs, with crosstalk and neutral versions.

responds with: keyboard

Card Sorting (WCST)

A Wisconsin Card Sorting-style task: work out the hidden sorting rule from feedback, and adapt when the rule changes without warning.

responds with: mouse or touch
